Do You Know Where You Are Going? – Part 1

Observations

A lot of people are not clear about what they want to gain or experience out of their lives, physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. They may rely on what society says they should want, or what their parents, friends or colleagues may tell them they should want. However, those wants may not be what is needed to fulfill their own life goals and desires. They may have had dreams and goals when they were younger but that have long since been stifled by various limiting voices and or circumstances in their lives. They get so caught up in the day-to-day hustle of survival and getting by, that they hardly get a moment to enjoy life or even remember what they are doing it all for.

People may remember what their dreams were as a child, but they can hardly remember the excitement they had when talking or thinking about their dreams and goals. They may sadly remember how in their younger years they were so excited and ready to step out and explore the world of endless possibilities.  However, most can’t identify when that passion filled, ”joie de vivre energy faded away to the monotonous routine of their day-to-day lives.

Child Dreams

Many individuals have lives filled with people they love and enjoy moments of comradery and happiness. They will laugh, go to parties, enjoy milestones but unfortunately the memory of these experiences are not always enough to get them through tough times or make them feel whole or complete. Overall, many get comfortable being uncomfortable. Responding to life as society dictates, they should. They give in to a life that they feel can’t change often because of the limiting belief systems they have adopted over the years. Even though some individuals may think change may be possible, they may feel the effort is too great, time too scarce or the result not significant enough for them to be inspired to take action.

The Point Being Made

The point I am aiming to make here is that if you can’t see your end game, or you don’t define what your heart or soul truly desire, then it is very difficult to motivate yourself to act, and you may find yourself settling for a life that leaves you empty. Perhaps even leaving you in a constant state of wondering “What if?”. Not clarifying where you are going or rather what you want out of your life is akin to being on a boat in the middle of the ocean with no navigation system, some days sunny and nice and other days stormy and tumultuous; stuck going in whichever direction the wind blows.

Not defining where you are heading or what your destination may be is like being thrown into an unknown wooded area, in the middle of the night with a new moon, so no light, with rugged terrain, cliffs, wild animals, no flashlight or compass and being told to find the path. Now that may work if you are already connected with the force like a Jedi knight, but unfortunately many of us have yet to open ourselves up to that connection.  So, we stay put; preferring to stick with what we know rather than take a blind leap of faith into the unknown. You see, it really doesn’t matter what bus you get on or in the above example, the path you take, assuming you can find it, if you don’t know where you are going.

Default Mode

Without a destination, or reason why, most people just live their lives in default mode and don’t even bother to board a bus at all. They are unable to see beyond what is directly in front of them or get past their daily responsibilities. Others get on the bus, but quickly get sidetracked and jump off the bus before they reach their desired destination. There are also some few that get on the bus, have no clue where they are heading and get lost in the vastness of it all, staying safe in the limited safe bubble they create around themselves.  There are also those that simply just get stuck.

Why People Get Stuck

People can get stuck, rooted, or left behind at the bus terminal, on the bus or on paths for various reasons. Reasons like fear, insecurities, indecisiveness, willful blindness, or a preference to complain about their lives rather than change it. Some blame their circumstances, their government, their responsibilities, their parents or may believe that some are simply born with gold spoons in their mouths, or they were born with a money tree in their yard or that others have it easier than them and that may very well be the reality you perceive.

There are also individuals that get stuck or lost on a bus or path they embarked on because they never make any concrete decisions. They get complacent about not getting caught up in life or the world or taking on any responsibilities. They often answer questions with a shoulder shrug or a, ` I don’t know`. They adjust to a life of constant change with no roots and for some that may be ok, that may be what they really want out of their life. However, for others, what started off as a promising adventure to figure things out metamorphosized into avoidance, fear of the vastness of possibilities and or of making the wrong choices.

Conclusion

All those reasons are in fact valid in some way and explains why someone is where they are at, but it often doesn’t bring them any sort of real peace or comfort. Many people can relate to these situations but in all those instances, people are throwing away their creative power and their God given right of freedom of choice. By allowing those reasons to claim hold of them and anchoring them in a place they technically find comfortable in its familiarity but that they really don’t want to be in, they are debilitating themselves. They are consciously or unconsciously heading into a downward spiral of stagnation, that leads to nowhere.

If any of this resonates with you, be sure to come back in a few days to read part 2 of this article where you will learn about the importance of picking a destination or at the very least knowing the general direction you want to head in and tips on how to get start moving in that direction.
